program at the American University of Central Asia

The project is being implemented by active residents of Karakol, teachers and students of the Innovation School-Gymnasium No. 1 named after Aldayara uulu Moyt Ake, the team of the Social Innovation Laboratory of Kyrgyzstan (SILK), together with teachers and students of the “Urban Development” program of the Kyrgyz Aldayar uulu Moit Ake, the Kyrgyz Social Innovation Lab (SILK) team, together with teachers and students from the Urban Planning and Design program and the Maker Space training center at the American University of Central Asia, with support from the Karakol City Hall Karakol City Hall and influencer bloggers Altynai Yusupova and Kairat Adigeneev.
Near School No. 1 in the very center of Karakol, at the intersection of Koenkozova and Zhamansarieva streets, there is still an old stele built during the Soviet era, on which traces of the coat of arms of the Kyrgyz SSR remain. An interesting green space has developed around the stele, which has great potential and could become a place for meetings, recreation, and various activities for both schoolchildren and residents of nearby areas and visitors to the city.

The photos below illustrate the location and current state of the area surrounding the school.
Everything starts with community
We recently held meetings with senior students from Aldayar uulu Moit Ake Innovative School-Gymnasium No. 1 to discuss and generate ideas about how the space could be used in the future and what they would like to see in it. About 30 students participated in the discussion, dividing into four teams and then presenting their ideas. Based on the ideas proposed by the students, we developed a preliminary design, which we presented the next day to Karakol Mayor Timur Misirovich Madyarov, city hall employees, and schoolchildren.
Below is a floor plan with zoning for various types of activities.
You can also view videos and photos of 3D models of the preliminary design.
The project will be implemented with funds raised by concerned residents and with the support of the Karakol City Council. We kindly request your contribution. All funds will be used to purchase building materials. The work will be carried out by activists from our center and residents of Karakol.

You can make a donation to the account of Altynai Yusupova, a graduate of the master's program in urban studies at AUCA. She has already raised funds for our first pocket park project in Bishkek, which we completed last year. You can also check out our second public space project in the 9th microdistrict of Bishkek - Theater 9.

Construction will begin on June 20. We also invite you to join us and contribute with your own hands!

together we can make our beloved karakol even better!
